The Utah Republican Party will NOT support the Citizens’ Ethics Initiative. 102 out of 103 Central Committee members voted for a Resolution to denounce Utahns’ for Ethical Government’s ballot proposal.
“The state party strongly supports ethics reforms at all levels,” Hansen said Monday, “but did not feel this initiative achieves those goals.”

This is a sad commentary on the leadership of the Utah Republican Party. Utah citizens including Republicans are signing the petition in droves are because they recognize there is a problem in our state that has been ignored for too long by those in positions of power. There are also several distinguished Republicans who are former legislators who are among the sponsors of the Citizens initiative. My question is “why are the Republican leaders so afraid of a an independent ethics committee and a set of clearly defined ethics rules for Utah’s public servants to follow”? Methinks they doth protest too much.
