Tea Party Time…Come Join Us!
2009 at 4:00 pm | posted by Rep. Craig Frank 6 comments

Between now and April 15th, there will be a number of Tea Party events throughout Utah. Take advantage of these events to exercise your First Amendment right to speak freely and frankly about Federal Bailouts, TARP, and gross-negligent, uncontrolled spending by Washington DC. Hundreds of protestors have already confirmed their attendence at the Tea Party scheduled for the Downtown Salt Lake City Federal Building Plaza.

If the noble patriots behind these tea-bagging events had peeped up, even in the teensiest bit (yourself included, my man) on the cost of the war, Bush’s own budgets, or the effect Bush’s tax cuts could have on our deficit even with a complete and immediate cap on spending, there would be some credibility here. As it stands now, you look more like dupes, suckered by a corporate sponsored faux populism. And even more humorous is the complete lack of understanding of the original Boston Tea Party, which was about tea trade, not taxation.
But on the other hand, it’s an opportunity for the rest of us to get some HI-Larious video for our blogs. So I guess it’s not all bad. Personally, I’m excited for the lunacy of the reactionary and ill-informed to be plastered on every TeeVee screen, radio station, and blog (dare I hope?). It’s my guess it will be good for Democrats.
Carry on, by all means. No history books or logical connections needed here!

Well said Jason.

Serious comedic potential. Jon Stewart’s takedown of the tea baggers was just the beginning. I will be disappointed if nobody at the rally calls for the impeachment of President Obama for… what? Trying to save us from another Great Depression? Letting Bush’s tax cuts expire on schedule at the end of next year?

I read the following in the Wikipedia entry on the Boston Tea Party: “Colonists objected to the Tea Act for a variety of reasons, especially because they believed that it violated their constitutional right to be taxed only by their own elected representatives.”
That squares with what I learned in public schools. Jason, you have pointed out that the American Revolution was a war with a complex series of causes. However, that doesn’t make the simplification with which we are all familiar useless. If only we could have such a nuanced discussion on the history behind the recent wars we’ve waged.

The tea party was not only for taxes. If you were to have gone to one you would have seen many different aspects of it. Losing rights that men have fought and died for is shamful ! And Obama is not a god but a man. He should look in his wallet and see that on his money it says (In God We Trust).LOL! And qiut calling the people who put him in office arrogant!!! This man has no idea at all what he is doing. Every day he does something more dangerous to the safty of America. And yes I went to a Tea Party and love being in a country that has freedom of speech. For how long is a ?. Maybe some of you people should open your eyes and read what is really going on. Not just what your told. Remember back in 1939 what happened.

Your sentiment was clearly articulated by dozens of speakers at the Tea Party I attended in Salt Lake City at the Federal Bldg. Thanks for your thoughts, Danny.
