Rep. Craig Frank (R-Pleasant Grove) and Sen. Howard Stephensen (R-Draper) recently recieved the ”Innovators In Action” award from The Reason Foundation for 2008.  Other recipients this year of this presigious award included US Transportation Secretary Mary Peters and Texas Governor Rick Perry.

Frank and Stephensen focused many of their efforts during the 2007 Interim and the 2008 General Session on Privatization and Competition legislation…getting government out of the business of business.

Do you remember the two items you posted on this blog on Feb. 12th, 2008?

Yes. Thank you for reminding me…Utah Teacher.

HB75 (Rep. Frank, R-PG) does NOT address functions of government at the LOCAL LEVEL (i.e. County or City). HB75 did, however, require these reviews and recommendations to Utah State governmental divisions and departments.

SB45 was Howard Stephensen’s bill and required an inventory on the local level for first and second class counties and cities (local government) and only made the suggestion to make recommendations to the city council or county commission for their consideration.

If the private sector can provide a good or service of local government (many times at a reduced cost to the local taxpayer), then why not reduce the size of our local bureaucracies and increase the number of efficient, private-sector jobs???
