RED FLAG! Sierra Club Endorses Huntsman’s Environmental Position
2007 at 8:23 am | posted by Rep. Craig Frank 3 comments
In a recent “Take Action!” MEMORANDUM posted on the Sierra Club’s website, Tim Wagner musters the troops to declare war against opposition to Government Jon Huntsman, Jr’s recent unilateral buyin to California Governor Schwarzenegger’s Western Climate Intitiative. Huntsman and Schwarzenegger, along with other western states (Democrat) Governors signed the initative mandating heavy restrictions on “greenhouse gas emissions,” etc. (Click HERE for recent blog)
In the cross-hairs as one of the Sierra Club’s primary targets is Representative Mike Noel (R-Kanab), one of the state’s champions for responsible environmental policy.
The Club is asking its followers to utilize normal MSM (Mainstream Media) channels to “express(ing) your support” to push their liberal restrictive environmental agenda.

I am fully in favor of responsible environmental stewardship. I fully opposed to oppressive govermental regulation and abuse of property rights to achieve this goal.
Utah’s Republicans selected Gov. Huntsman above all other candidates, despite his ephemeral conservative credentials. The Governor would be a fine somewhat socially conservative Democrat in any other state.

Rep Frank,
I’m pleased that you feel the need to blast me and the Sierra Club over our desire to show support for Governor Huntsman’s actions on climate change. I wonder if you might be conveying an extreme, ill-informed opinion by saying that we are “declaring war on the opposition” to the Governor’s actions. My, I guess I’d better get my Army fatigues and gear out of the closet for this upcoming battle.
I quite literally reject any notion that our position on global warming or the Governor’s efforts are anything more than mainstream. The facts are that the Governor has brought stakeholders from all sides to the table to address this issue, including Utah legislators from both parties. The Governor was absolutely correct when he stated last spring that climate change is neither a Republican or Democratic issue. Neither is it the Sierra Club’s or Al Gore’s issue. We’re all part of the problem and we’re all part of the solution. And in the process, we can take these opportunities to diversify our energy portfolio and expand our economy with more sustainable energy resources at the same time. If that is considered by some to be a radical, extreme position, well so be it. But before you expound on some ill-informed, insulting tirade against those you disagree with, you might be doing yourself and your constituents a big favor by looking at this issue with an open mind. And I’d be more than happy to meet with you any time to discuss this issue.
Respectfully,
Tim Wagner

[...] In an effort to suspend portions of Utah lawmakers’ 2006 responsible energy initiative (Rep. Roger Barrus, Chief Sponsor), which includes the continuing investigation into the utilization of nuclear energy, Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. signed a personal pledge with Governor Schwarzenegger, to increase green reliance and awareness.
