I am all for conservation. What I am against is people using it as a chit to gain political power and to exercise control over the citizenry.

As a conservative Republican, I find it sad and embarrassing that my party is so filled with hatred of all things Democrat that the message of environmental stewardship comes under attack because of Al Gore's nominal and ignorant involvement.True, there is much hype associated with all the anxiety about global climate change, but as long as we simply attack the idea instead of replacing it with sound, usable information we will continue to look like crazed nay-sayers.There is so much that is smart and appropriate for us to do,as Republicans who seek balance;throwing stones at those who are going a bit too far(like our Western governors)is one of the dumbest ways to direct our energy. Is it any wonder that even those of us who consider conservatism and the GOP part of our birthright are moving away from those who use their corner of the "big tent" to rant against other Republicans whose "crime" is to take a leadership role in the 21st century? Three cheers for Arnold and Jon Huntsman as they strive for balance in a party that seems increasingly devoted to ignorance and stridency.
